Long term ill health and disability is something many of our clients struggle to deal with on an almost daily basis. The aim of this event is therefore to share with you ways to avoid falling foul of your obligations under discrimination legislation, the Equality Act 2010, but also to better understand how you can support employees suffering from cancer.
There are currently in the region of 700,000 people of working age living in the UK with a cancer diagnosis. This poses difficulties for both the employer and the employee and many may lack confidence with how to deal with it. Almost 4 in ten people who return to work from cancer treatment say that they experience some kind of discrimination from their employer or colleagues. This event seeks to address why this may happen and to help you to reduce the risks of this happening in your own organisations.
To host this event we are delighted to be working with Maggie’s Cancer Care based In Swansea, who provide free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer, along with their family and friends. They have professional staff on hand to offer the support that people need and they too can support employers with how to manage these kinds of situations.
We will start with networking and a light complimentary breakfast from 9am until 9.30am. We will then hear from speakers from the Employment team at Redkite Solicitors discussing disability discrimination and Sarah Hughes and Pippa Daley of Maggie’s Cancer Care on managing cancer in the workplace. There will be a Q&A session, followed by a further networking opportunity from around 11am, with an anticipated finish time of 11.30am.
Attendance at this event is on a first come first served basis and is open exclusively to Redkite HR Package clients or members of HR Network West Wales.
