As a Consultant, I work closely with employers across the region to deliver clear, practical advice and cost-effective solutions. My clients describe me as "extremely approachable and pragmatic."
Change is the new constant – in employment laws, working practises, policies and employee issues. Employers have had a tough time in the last few years and need calm, clear, expert advice from people who have seen it all before. They want to sort out difficult problems and minimise the risk of tribunal claims, often whilst dealing personally with the implications of change. We work hard to improve what we do and the support we provide.
I advise on complex reorganisations, providing support and helping my clients to plan and implement redundancies and other change management programmes. I recently advised on a major restructure, involving the exit of a significant proportion of the client’s workforce and/or job variations, and collective consultation obligations.
I also collaborate with our Commercial partner, Paul James, with the employment aspects of business sales, outsourcing and insourcing, including the application of the TUPE regulations. I enjoy these deals and seeing a business go through painful change to emerge the other side stronger and fitter.
The less glamorous side of my work is defending employers from unfair dismissal, discrimination, bullying and blacklisting claims. These can be time consuming and worrying for the client. I defended one of the first claims under the new Blacklisting Regulations, involving multiple claimants and respondents, which was listed for an 8 day hearing.
I live with my husband, 3 boys and 2 cocker spaniels. The boys are football mad, so I spend most of my spare time either playing or watching them play football.
