As a specialist Employment Solicitor in "the strongest employment team in West Wales" (The Legal 500 UK 2013), I provide commercially sensitive advice that clients can trust on a wide range of employment & HR issues.

The majority of my time is spent guiding our clients through their employment matters in order to resolve issues and avoid lengthy disputes. I have also carried out the industry recognised ACAS Mediation training and provide in-house mediation services as well as mediation training to a wide range of organisations.

A large amount of my time is spent advising on redundancies and transfers that fall under TUPE legislation. I have recently advised a large maritime client that employs around 200 people and has a turnover in excess of £23 million in relation to a TUPE & redundancy consultation process.

I often advise clients in relation to contract change procedures, which frequently involves advising in relation to collective consultation. One such piece of advice recently has been for a client that manufactures products for use in the storage and transportation industry and who employs around 300 staff.  The company has recently made heavy investment in its saw mill and timber drying equipment.

As part of the Redkite HR Packages I provide clients with bespoke contracts and employee handbooks to put them in the strongest position to protect their business. Also under the package I support clients through disciplinary & grievance procedures as well as dealing with dismissals and poor performers by providing clients with tailored letters and scripts for their meetings.

I often advise clients on the most proactive way to deal with employees who have high levels of sickness absence, which in itself often raises challenges under discrimination legislation. This is always a frustrating area for clients, particularly now that employers are not able to claim SSP back through HMRC. If there is no way forward between a client and their employee I will promote a ‘Protected Conversation’, which more often than not leads to a Settlement Agreement being agreed between the parties. At times of stress and uncertainty, having someone who can help you understand what to do next can make all the difference in the world.

I engage with many of our clients by telephone and in person. It is this client interaction that I find most rewarding, together with assisting our clients in avoiding costly litigation processes. At Red Kite Law LLP we act for a wide range of business of all sizes and sectors, including petrochemical, energy, agricultural, automotive, hospitality, retail and manufacturing. I also have considerable experience in advising clients from the care sector, ensuring that our employment advice is consistent with the needs of the industry and the regulations set down by regulatory bodes such as CSSIW and Adult Protection.

Where relationships have broken down, I represent clients in contentious employment tribunal matters. Although I enjoy the challenge of a contentious dispute, I always act in the best interest of our client. I have recently settled a complex unfair dismissal and discrimination claim for a client in the agricultural sector, for a minimal commercial sum, where the client could have been liable for a significant award against it, having failed to follow any procedures before dismissing its long-serving employee.

I also provide businesses with in-house training sessions and workshops on all employment law issues. For example, I will shortly be holding workshops in relation to the Modern Slavery and Difficult Discussions in the autumn.

I am local to the area and having carried out my training contract at Morgan Cole LLP in Cardiff (now Blake Morgan), I was delighted to be able to return home to a modern commercial law firm. I live with my husband and daughter in Walton East and am currently reliving my youth as a leader of our local Young Farmers Club.
